Three killed as a human sacrifice in Mexico

Authorities in Sonora, Mexico have arrested eight people in connection with the murder of two boys and a woman. The victims are thought to be human sacrifices for Santa Muerte, the saint of death.

According to CNN, Jose Larrinaga, the spokesman for the state prosecutor, has said that the victims were killed and their blood was offered to an altar of the saint while the accused were asking for protection from Santa Muerte.

Santa Muerte, who is usually portrayed as a skeleton, is not officially recognized by the Catholic Church but has become popular recently, especially with criminals.

The Sonora State Investigative police describe the accused as a ?Satanic sect.? The bodies were allegedly found in Nacozari de Garcia and the first of the victims was killed in 2009.

Two of the victims were a mere 10 years old and the last of the victims was killed last month. Guillermo Padres Elias, the state governor, spoke out. ?Nothing like this has ever happened before in the state of Sonora. And it?s not something we?re going to allow,? he said.

The eight accused are all family and, according to Fox News, the murders were discovered from a report on the disappearance of a young boy.

The accused eventually confessed and led police to the burial site of the three victims where their remains still lay.
