Ten women will paddle around the clock beneath the midnight sun in support of Outward Bound Canada?s Women of Courage program

TORONTO, June 19, 2012 /CNW/ - On Wednesday June 27, ten Canadian women will compete in the world's longest annual canoe and kayak race to raise awareness and funds for Outward Bound Canada's (OBC) Women of Courage program.

"The team has committed to a rigorous training schedule and we have pledged to raise $10,000 to support OBC's Women of Courage program" said Charlotte Jacklein, leader of the Yukon River Quest Outward Bound Team.

For the second year, the team will compete to raise funds and awareness for the program, which provides women survivors of abuse the opportunity to experience adventure and challenge in the wilderness. ?According to Jacklein, "Women of Courage programs offer a powerful opportunity for survivors to develop self-confidence, resilience and escape the cycle of abuse".

The OBC team is participating in the 740km marathon race on the Yukon River from Whitehorse to Dawson City.? The team, comprised of current and former OBC instructors, must complete the race in under 72 hours.
